Residents of Apitikooko, a suburb of Obuasi Municipal in the Ashanti Region is calling on Anglogold Ashanti (A.G.A) to as a matter of urgency relocate them to a better place lest they die. Speaking to Obuasi Tv Chukwu Joseph, according to them, the women suffer severe menstrual cramps and other recurring diseases while the Men in the community perform abysmally in the bedroom.
This, they blame on the mine tailings left in the town by the company. To top it all up, they’re compelled to drink unclean water allegedly poisoned by the tailings. In a Press Conference organized by Adansi Progressive Association (APA), convener Mr. Akwasi Aboagye disclosed that the only drinking water available for consumption when tested, returned positive for harmful substances that cause severe ailments.
He called on AGA to relocate the community as soon as possible and offer suitable compensation for the losses incurred. Odikro, Nana Yaw Ofori, and his Baapanin, Nana Akosua Pomaah amidst tears revealed how all attempts to reach AGA have yielded no positive results.
Nana Akosua Pomaah, Obaapani of Apitikooko specifically said, if not intervention of Mr. Aboagye and APA, they would continue to consume unwholesome water without knowing.
