Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President, has informed Parliament’s Majority caucus of his desire to run in the NPP Presidential Primaries in November of this year.
The majority of NPP MPs supported the Vice President’s decision at a meeting on Tuesday evening.
Many believe Dr. Bawumia to be the favorite to replace President Akufo-Addo in 2024, but he will have to knock over three-time runner Alan Kyerematen, who resigned in January this year to focus on his Presidential quest.
On November 4, 2023, the NPP will choose a Presidential Candidate for the 2024 elections. Nine candidates have already stated their interest to lead the party.
Former Trade and Industry Minister Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, former Food and Agriculture Minister Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, and Francis Addai Nimo are among the nine aspirants.

The nomination process for the NPP presidential primaries will begin on May 26th and conclude on June 24th, 2023.
In addition, the party has declared that parliamentary primaries will take place in February 2024.
