A 25-man squad has been selected by new Black Stars coach Chris Hughton for Ghana’s doubleheader against the Black Antelopes of Angola.
On Thursday, March 24, 2023, the Black Stars would meet Angola at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi in the opening leg of the 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Four days later, the Black Antelopes, the defending champions of Africa, would travel to Luanda for the second leg as both teams sought to qualify for the AFCON, which would be held in Ivory Coast the following year.
Majeed Ashimeru and Joseph Paintsil are called up by Chris Hughton, a former Black Stars technical director, who also makes some unexpected additions to his team.
The two missed the World Cup since Ghana was unable to go through the group stages despite their impressive performance with their club team.
Inaki Williams and Taria Lamptey, who made their Black Stars debuts in the 2022 World Cup, continue to play for the team, as do Andre and Jordan Ayew.
Afriyie Barnieh and Baba Rhaman, two players who were a part of Ghana’s 2022 World Cup team, were among the unexpected omissions from the roster.
