According to a news release from the Ghana Geological Survey Authority (GGSA), this morning there was a 2.8 magnitude earth tremor that affected areas of the capital city of Accra.
The 9.49 am tremor was “somewhat felt in High Street, Ridge, and other portions of Accra Central,” according to the Authority.
The GGSA Acting Director-General, Isaac Kuuwan Mwinbelle, stated in the announcement that the epicenter was 1.5 kilometers offshore, close to James Town in the Greater Accra Region.
“The reported magnitude is a good indicator of the tremor’s size.
It is not anticipated that the modest earth tremor will result in any harm, he continued.
