Former Black Star players Stephen Appiah and Michael Essien have offered words of encouragement to the team ahead of the crunch encounter against Nigeria.
Ghana’s hope of making it to Qatar 2022 is still alive after a goalless draw in the first leg against the Super Eagles in Kumasi last Friday. That quest will come alive should the Black Stars secure either a scoring draw or win in the away fixture in Nigeria.
On the back of this, the aforementioned ex-Ghana internationals have been spurring the boys on. In a video posted by the Professional Football Association of Ghana (PFAG) on Twitter, the two legends offered their unflinching support to the team. “I believe in you guys and I know what you can do. Go for the win, come on guys!”, Essien said in the video.
His colleague and former captain “Tornado” Appiah had this to say: “The time to add to our long list of football success stories is here, and I urge you to go in for the gold. Let’s go all out and silence our noisy brothers and neighbors and I believe you guys are capable of doing that. Be bold, I once again repose my belief in you and remember all you need is perseverance, self believe and teamwork to beat your opponent.”
The match is set to take place today at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja at 17:00 GMT.
