Osinachi Nwachukwu’s murder generated controversy because her relatives claimed she was a victim of domestic abuse.
She appeared in the 2017 blockbuster gospel song Ekwueme, which has 77 million views on YouTube.
Peter Nwachukwu is facing a total of 23 accusations.
Some of them are related to domestic violence, such as emotional, verbal, and psychological abuse, as well as culpable homicide, which is punishable by the death penalty.
Mr. Nwachukwu was remanded in prison by the Abuja High Court.
He has been detained while the police investigate the cause of her death.
Initially, it was reported that the 42-year-old singing singer was suffering from throat cancer, but her family refuted this.
Many Nigerians, particularly Christians, were saddened and outraged by the news of her death.
Some others took to social media to encourage religious leaders not to advise church members to remain in abusive relationships.
Paul Enenche of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, the pastor at the church where she was the lead vocalist, said that as a religious group, they had no tolerance for domestic abuse and that he had no idea she was an alleged abuse victim.
The late actor left four children behind.
