Ghana’s Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has upheld the revocation of three mining leases belonging to Adamus Resources Limited.
The affected leases cover the Akango, Salman and Nkroful concessions in the Western Region. The decision follows a review of a petition submitted by Adamus Resources challenging the government’s earlier decision to revoke its mining leases.
A ministerial review committee was set up to examine the company’s concerns. After considering the matter, the committee reportedly affirmed most of the breaches identified during the initial investigation.
The original revocation followed investigations by the Minerals Commission, which found several alleged violations of Ghana’s mining laws. These included unauthorised subcontracting of mining operations and operating without some required permits and approvals.
Following the latest decision, Mr Armah-Kofi Buah has directed the Minerals Commission to take immediate administrative control of the Adamus Mine and oversee an orderly transition of operations.
The government has also assured workers that steps will be taken to protect their livelihoods and ensure continuity at the mine.
The decision forms part of the government’s broader efforts to enforce Ghana’s mining laws and tackle illegal mining activities in the country.
