President John Dramani Mahama has ordered a GH¢2 reduction in diesel price effective tomorrow, 4th August, 2026.
The move, announced on Sunday, is part of government’s temporary fuel price intervention to avert transport fare hikes and ease the burden on Ghanaians amid rising global oil prices.
Per the directive:
• Government will absorb GH¢2 per litre on diesel [and GH¢0.36 on petrol – as done in April]
• The NPA will adjust the diesel price floor
• OMCs like Star Oil have already begun slashing prices
Communications Spokesperson for the Energy Ministry, Richmond Rockson, previously described the intervention as proof that the “Mahama government is people-centred and responsive to the needs of Ghanaians.”
Government says the measure will be reviewed after one month as it monitors developments on the international petroleum market, including the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.
This comes after Cabinet instructed the Transport Minister to deploy newly acquired Metro Mass buses on high-traffic corridors at reduced fares.
